La Bella gas field is located license VIC/RL7 in the Otway Basin off the State of Victoria. VIC/RL7 is part of Exploration Permit VIC/P67 which was awarded in 2Q 2012 to WHL Energy who holds 100% equity. Water depth in the area is approximately 300 feet. The field was established in 1992 based on results from the La Bella-1 exploration well. WHL has assessed the field and estimates 2C Contingent Resources of 158 PJ.

The La Bella structure is a NE-SW trending faulted anticline, broken up into four rotated fault blocks by NW-SE trending normal faults. Each fault block has three-way dip closure in combination with fault closure to the SE. An E-W compressional event after deposition of the U Shipwreck Group appears to have created the majority of structural relief in the strike direction. Faults have been active through the Cretaceous, especially after deposition of the Shipwreck Group, but do not extend into the Tertiary around La Bella. The faults are downthrown to the SW and Shipwreck and Otway Group sediments have been tilted back to provide dip closure towards the NE. The La Bella-1 well encountered a section Albian to Recent ni age. The sequence was significantly different to predicted, as the prograding deltaic sediments of the Wangerrip Group were not present. No hydrocarbon shows were encountered in the Tertiary section. Log interpretation identified two gas bearing intervals within the Shipwreck Group. Gas/water contacts interpreted from RFT results are 7,037 feet and 7,112 feet for the upper and lower sands, respectively. The two gas bearing intervals are in different pressure regimes and are not in communication with sands in nearby wells.

WHL Gets Nod for La Bella 3D Survey
Type: Operator Update
Mar. 2013 - Australia's Commonwealth Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (DSEWPC) has given its approval for WHL Energy to proceed with a 3D seismic survey over permit VIC/P67 off southeast Australia. WHL was advised that its plans to acquire 313 miles (504 kilometers) of 3D seismic are not controlled under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act of 1999. The survey will cover the area of the proven La Bella gas and condensate discovery and will help to identify future drilling opportunities. Additionally, the survey will provide WHL with a better understanding of the geology in the area and a more accurate assessment of likely gas and condensate reserves in the field.

Farm-Out Negotiations Open for La Bella
Type: Operator Update
Sep. 2012 - WHL Energy announced they have formally commenced the farm-out process on its VIC/P67 oil and gas permit in the offshore Otway Basin off the Victorian coast of Australia. Strong industry interest to participate in the development of the permit has prompted this Australian-based operator to open a data room in Perth, providing potential partners with access to past exploration and study data from previous operators as well as WHL Energy. The farm-out process is expected wrap up by the end of 2012. The VIC/P67 permit is located approximately 124 miles (200 km) West-Southwest of Melbourne and is wholly owned by WHL Energy.

WHL Energy to Fast-Track 3D Seismic Program
Type: Acreage Acquisition
Aug. 2012 - Based on "strong industry interest", WHL is planning to speed up its 3D seismic acquisition program in Exploration Permit VIC/P67 by 12 months. The undeveloped La Bella gas field is located in the Permit and contains an estimated 150 billion cubic feet of contingent resources. Currently, WHL is looking for partners to participate in the data acquisition program which it expects to start in 2Q 2013. The program involves purchasing and assessing 313 square miles of 3D seismic data and is subject to regulatory environmental approvals.
