The Mamba North discovery, situated about 14 miles (22 kilometers) north of Mamba South-1 location, also encountered 610 feet (186 meters) of gas-bearing rock. A production test was conducted, producing about 1 MMcm/d of natural gas and minor volumes of condensate during testing, but flow rates were constrained by surface facilities.

Eni estimates output per well could reach more than 4 MMcm/d in a final production completion configuration.

The operator said that this new discovery, in addition to the Mamba South find, further increases the potential of the Mamba complex in Area 4. It is estimated that the total volume of gas-in-place is 40 Tcf.

Appraisals Raise Mamba Complex Potential
Type: Appraisal Operations

Dec. 2012 - Eni, the operator of Area 4 offshore Mozambique, received a big boost to gas-in-place estimates with recent discoveries made at Mamba South-2 and Coral-2 appraisal wells. Both discoveries add a combined 6 Tcf of gas to Area 4, which raises estimates of potential gas in the Mamba Complex to 75 Tcf. Mamba-2, drilled to 14,107 feet, intersected 196 feet of gas pay in Oligocene reservoirs. Flow test results point to an estimated daily production rate of 140 MMscf. Coral-2 reached a depth of 15,501 feet and discovered 459 feet of pay in Eocene reservoirs. A production test of Coral-2 has yet to be conducted. The company plans to drill two additional appraisal wells, Mamba South-3 and Coral-3, in order to fully gauge the potential of the Mamba Complex discoveries.

Eni Finds Additional Gas in Area 4 Offshore Mozambique
Type: New Discovery

Aug. 2012 - Eni announced that a discovery has been made in the eastern part of Area 4, offshore Mozambique, at the Mamba North East 2 exploration prospect. The new discovery adds at least 10 Tcf of gas in place to Area 4, confirming at least 62 Tcf of gas in-place already discovered, bringing the resources, exclusively located in Area 4, to at least 20 Tcf plus of gas in place, stated the operator. Mamba North East 2, where Eni will conduct a production test, was drilled in 6,542 feet (1,994 meters) of water and reached total depth of 17,602 feet (5,365 meters). The well is located approximately 6 miles (9 kilometers) east of Mamba North East 1 and approximately 14 miles (23 kilometers) from Mamba South 1, 37 miles (60 kilometers) off the Capo Delgado coast. The well encountered 656 feet (200 meters) of gas pay in stacked multiple high-quality Oligocene, Eocene and Paleocene sands. The discovery has proved the existence of hydraulic communication with the Oligocene reservoir in Mamba North East 1 and with those of the Eocene age in Mamba North East 1 and Mamba South 1, through a unique gas column of 1,509 feet (460 meters). Lastly, Mamba North East 2 has identified a new exploration play in the Paleocene located exclusively in Area 4.

Eni Scores Again in Area 4 Offshore Mozambique
Type: Appraisal Operations

Mar. 2012 - Eni has made a "giant" natural gas discovery in Area 4 offshore Mozamique at the Mamba North East 1 exploration prospect. The operator said that the results of this well are of special importance since they increase the resource base of Area 4 by at least 10 Tcf of which 8 Tcf of these contained in reservoirs exclusively located in Area 4. This new discovery further improves the potential of the Mamba complex in Area 4 offshore Mozambique, now estimated to hold at least 40 Tcf of gas-in-place. Mamba North East 1 encountered a total of 787 feet (240 meters) of gas pay in multiple high-quality Oligocene and Eocene sands. It proved reservoir continuity and pressure communication with Mamba South 1 and Mamba North 1 wells. During 2012, Eni plans to drill at least another four wells in nearby structures to fully assess the upside potential of the Mamba Complex.

Eni All Smiles Over Mamba North
Type: New Discovery

Feb. 2012 - Eni has made a "massive" natural gas discovery at the Mamba North 1 prospect, in Area 4 offshore Mozambique, encountering a mineral potential of 7.5 Tcf of gas-in-place, reported the company. This new discovery, in addition to the Mamba South find made in October 2011, further increases the potential of the Mamba complex in Area 4. It is estimated that the total volume of gas-in-place is 30 Tcf. The well encountered 610 feet (186 meters) of gas-bearing rock. A production test was conducted, producing about 1 MMcm/d of natural gas and minor volumes of condensate during testing, but flow rates were constrained by surface facilities. Eni estimates output per well could reach more than 4 MMcm/d in a final production completion configuration.

Eni Increases Mozambique Reserves 50% to 22.5 Tcf
Type: Status Update

Oct. 2011 - Eni's gas discovery offshore Mozambique, Mamba South-1, is about 50 percent larger than what was previously announced by the company on October 20th. While deepening the well, it found a new separated pool that potentially contains up to 7.5 TCF of gas-in-place in clean sands from the Eocene age. The new section contains about 295 feet (90 meters) of gross gas pay, which has been cored. Eni will drill the well to a total depth of about 16,404 feet (5,000 meters) after which the company will move the rig to drill the second commitment well, Mamba North-1, situated about 14 miles (22 kilometers) north of Mamba South-1 location. The operator expects that the unprecedented potential of Tertiary Play existing in Area 4 will be further defined in the forthcoming appraisal campaign. Furthermore, the operator has stated that front-end activities on the discovery have commenced. Eni believes that the discovery can hold up to 22.5 TCF of gas-in-place in the Mamba South Area. The discovery is located in a water depth of 5,200 feet (1,585 meters) about 25 miles (40 kilometers) off Cabo Delgado coast. Eni operates the area with a 70 percent interest; Galp Energia holds 10 percent; KOGAS holds 10 percent; and ENH holds 10 percent, carried through the exploration phase.

Eni Finds Gas Offshore Mozambique
Type: New Discovery

Oct. 2011 - Eni has made a gas discovery at the Mamba South-1 prospect in Area 4 offshore Mozambique. The discovery well encountered about 696 feet (212 meters) of continuous gas pay in high-quality Oligocene sands. This is the first exploratory well Eni has drilled in Area 4. The operator stated that results have exceeded pre-drill expectations and confirm the Rovuma Basin as a world-class natural gas province. Having reached a total depth of 16,404 feet (5,000 meters), the Mamba South-1 well will now be tested. Eni believes this discovery can hold at least 15 Tcf of gas-in-place in the Mamba South area where the potential of the Tertiary play exists, which will be further assessed through drilling. Eni says the outstanding volume of natural gas discovered will lead to a large-scale gas development, with a combination of both export to regional and international markets through LNG and supply to the domestic market. The discovery is located in a water depth of 5,200 feet (1,585 meters) about 25 miles (40 kilometers) off Cabo Delgado coast. Eni operates the area with a 70 percent interest; while Galp holds 10 percent; Kogas holds 10 percent; and ENH holds 10 percent.
