Project Description
The Barquentine field is located offshore Area 1 of Mozambique's Rovuma Basin. Anadarko operates Area 1 with a 36.5% working interest. Co-owners in the area are Mitsui E&P Mozambique Area 1, Limited (20%), BPRL Ventures Mozambique B.V. (10%), Videocon Mozambique Rovuma 1 Limited (10%) and Cove Energy Mozambique Rovuma Offshore, Ltd. (8.5%). Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos 15% interest is carried through the exploration phase.

On Oct. 19, 2010, Anadarko discovered natural gas in the Barquentine exploration well. The well encountered more than 416 net feet (127 meters) of natural gas pay in multiple high-quality sands. Specifically, more than 308 net feet (94 meters) of pay was encountered in two Oligocene sands that are separate with distinct geological features, but age-equivalent to those encountered in Anadarko's Windjammer discovery.

Drilled by the Belford Dolphin drillship, the well also found an additional 108 net feet (33 meters) of gas pay in the Paleocene sands, and the seismic data has indicated that this deeper pay is contiguous and appears to connect to the 75 net feet (23 meters) of pay found at Windjammer, which is located 2 miles (3 kilometers) to the southwest.

Anadarko stated that with these two discoveries, the company has identified a substantial natural gas resource and has proven that two distinct trap styles are working in this region of the Rovuma Basin.

In 3Q 2011, the operator announced that the Barquentine-2 appraisal well hit gas pay. The well encountered more than 230 net feet (70 meters) of natural gas pay in high-quality Oligocene-age reservoirs.

Drilled by the Belford Dolphin drillship, Barquentine-2 appraisal well reached a total depth of 13,500 feet (4,100 meters) in about 5,400 feet (1,646 meters) of water. The two wells, Barquentine-1 and Barquentine-2, have indicated that the Oligocene reservoirs are in static pressure communication between the two wells.

The Windjammer, Barquentine and Lagosta complex is estimated to contain 30 Tcf of recoverable natural gas resources. The consortium has also awarded contracts for pre-FEED work (to KBR and Technip) for a prospective LNG plant with initial production slated for 2018.

Anadarko Hits Additional Gas Pay in Rovuma Basin
Type: Appraisal Operations

Apr. 2012 - Anadarko made another gas find in the Rovuma Basin offshore Mozambique at its Barquentine-4 appraisal well. The Barquentine-4 well encountered 525 net feet (160 meters) of natural gas pay. This is the company's ninth successful well in the complex, which is part of the larger Prosperidade complex that is estimated to hold recoverable resources of between 17 and 30 Tcf of gas. Drilling is slated to end in July 2012. The well is situated about 19 miles (31 kilometers) north of the Lagosta discovery well at the southern end of the Windjammer/Lagosta/Barquentine/Camarao gas complex.

Anadarko Successfully Completes Well Test at Barquentine
Type: Status Update

Mar. 2012 - Anadarko reported that the Barquentine-2 well flowed gas at an equipment-constrained rate of between 90 and 100 million cubic feet per day. The company said that test data supports potential unconstrained flow rates of up to 200 MMcf/d. The Barquentine-2 well is located in a water depth of approximately 5,400 feet (1,646 meters). The drillstem test was conducted by the Deepwater Millennium (DW drillship), which is set to move to the Barquentine-1 location for a second flow and interference test in the complex.

Anadarko to Conduct Extensive Testing Program at Barquentine
Type: Appraisal Operations

Jan. 2012 - Anadarko is preparing to spud the Barquentine-3 well offshore Mozambique. The Deepwater Millennium (UDW drillship) is currently on location where it will commence an "extensive" testing program, reported Rigzone's RigLogix Database. The operator plans to install observation gauges and conduct several flow tests. The discovery lies offshore Area 1 of Mozambique's Rovuma Basin.

Anadarko Upgrades Barquentine Resouces Offshore Mozambique
Type: Status Update

Nov. 2011 - Anadarko has further upgraded its resource estimates for gas reserves in its Barquentine well after completing appraisal operations offshore Mozambique. The operator claims the estimates could exceed 30 Tcf. Barquentine-3 encountered more than 662 net feet (202 meters) of natural gas pay, expanding the estimated recoverable resource range from 15 to more than 30 Tcf, Dow Jones reported. "The positive results of each appraisal well we have drilled and analyzed have continued to increase our estimate of recoverable resources and natural gas in place on our block, and add to our confidence that this could be one of the most important natural gas fields discovered in the last 10 years," Anadarko Chairman and CEO Jim Hackett said. The discovery lies offshore Area 1 of Mozambique's Rovuma Basin. Anadarko operates the license with a 36.5 percent working interest. Partners in the license are Mitsui E&P Mozambique (20 percent), Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (15 percent), Bharat Petroleum (10 percent), Videocon Mozambique Rovuma (10 percent) and Cove Energy Mozambique Rovuma Offshore. (8.5 percent).

Anadarko Scores Again offshore Mozambique
Type: Appraisal Operations

Aug. 2011 - Anadarko Petroleum announced that the Barquentine-2 appraisal well has hit gas pay in Mozambique's Offshore Area 1 of the Rovuma Basin. The two wells, Barquentine-1 and Barquentine-2, have indicated that the Oligocene reservoirs are in static pressure communication. The Windjammer, Barquentine and Lagosta complex is estimated to contain 6 Tcf of recoverable natural gas resources. The consortium has also awarded contracts for pre-FEED work (to KBR and Technip) for a prospective LNG plant. The drillship will now mobilize to the south to drill the Camarao exploration well, which also will serve as an appraisal to the Windjammer discovery.

Anadarko Identifies a Substantial Natural Gas Resource in Rovuma Basin
Type: New Discovery

Oct. 2010 - The Barquentine exploration well has encountered more than 416 net feet (127 meters) of natural gas pay in multiple high-quality sands, reported Anadarko. The company has begun designing an appraisal program that will better delineate this large accumulation. Barquentine is located offshore Area 1 of Mozambique's Rovuma Basin.
