Project Description
The Pride South Pacific semisub discovered the Azurite field, located on the Mer Profonde Sud Block, offshore Republic of the Congo. Murphy Oil serves as the operator and has a 50% working interest; PA Resources AB holds 35% interest; and SNPC holds the remaining 15% interest.

In January 2005, the Azurite Marine No. 1 discovery well was drilled in 4,531 feet (1,381 meters) of water and found a significant amount of oil pay in multiple reservoirs of Lower Miocene age. An appraisal well, Azurite Marine No. 2, was drilled in 4,488 feet (1,368 meters) of water and confirmed the previous oil pay finding. A subsequent flow test from one zone produced 8,000 bopd and 4.63 MMcf/d (131,107 Mcm/d).

The field is located in the prolific Lower Congo Basin and has estimated recoverable reserves of 75 MMboe.

Field Development/Contracts

In January 2007, the Congolese Ministry of State approved the field development plan for Azurite. The field was developed by subsea wells, six oil producers and three water injectors, tied to a Floating, Drilling, Producing, Storage and Offloading (FDPSO) vessel.

FMC Technologies received an $80 million contract to supply the subsea systems for the Azurite project. The contract included 10 vertical subsea trees, related slimbore wellheads, control systems, and one 10-slot manifold.

In a $110 million contract, Technip won the engineering, procurement, fabrication, testing, installation and pre-commissioning of two production and one water-injection flexible risers, two production jumpers, and one umbilical. The company also supplied 10 well jumpers and provide transportation, installation and pre-commissioning for the subsea equipment.

In 2007, Prosafe was awarded a $400 million contract for the conversion and operation of the Azurite FDPSO unit to be placed on the Azurite field. This is the first time a mobile drilling rig will be converted into an FPSO for field development. After conversion, the vessel will have a storage capacity of 1.4 MMbo and a process capacity of 40,000 bopd. The FDPSO is spread-moored at a water depth of 4,594 feet (1,400 meters).

Production

Azurite came on-stream on Aug. 10, 2009 and is expected to reach a peak production of 40,000 bopd.

PA Provides Azurite Update
Type: Operator Update

Dec. 2012 - Azurite total field production in November averaged 3,800 bopd, lower than expected due to slow production recovery following two brief, unplanned production shut-downs at the end of October and middle of November. Production is now restored close to earlier levels. Operations on the plug and abandonment operation of the failed production well have been protracted due to technical issues but it is anticipated that removal of the existing production tubing will shortly commence to allow the new sidetrack well to be drilled.

Murphy to Drill Azurite Sidetrack Well
Type: Status Update

Aug. 2012 - PA Resources reported that following a full evaluation of remedial options to replace or reinstate the earlier communicated failed production well at the Azurite field in the Republic of Congo, the joint venture has agreed to drill a sidetrack. Preparatory activities have commenced and drilling operations are expected to start in early 4Q 2012 and take several months to complete. The Azurite field commenced production in August 2009.

Azurite Production Increases as Fourth Well Comes Online
Type: Status Update

Oct. 2010 - The fourth production well on the Azurite field was completed and brought into production. According to PA Resources, a partner on the field, the new well should increase the production levels of the field, which will continue to climb as the remaining two wells come online. The Azurite field is located on the Mer Profonde Sud Block, offshore Republic of the Congo. Murphy Oil serves as the operator and has a 50% working interest; PA Resources AB holds 35% interest; and SNPC holds the remaining 15% interest.

Production Increasing on Azurite Field
Type: Status Update

May. 2010 - Murphy Oil brought a third production well on the Azurite oil field online and will gradually increase production levels during the next two weeks in order to reach a planned stable rate. A second injection well is currently being drilled, with a further three producers and one injector to be drilled and completed in 2010. The Azurite field is located on the Mer Profonde Sud Block, offshore Republic of the Congo. Murphy Oil serves as the operator, holding a 50% working interest; PA Resources AB holds 35% interest; and SNPC holds the remaining 15% interest.

Murphy Oil Updates Status of Azurite Field
Type: Status Update

Apr. 2010 - The first well to come online on the Azurite field has produced roughly 3.1 million barrels of oil since mid-August 2009. While completing the second production well, technical problems were encountered, resulting in lower production rates than anticipated. The operator, Murphy, is considering corrective measures after the third production well, and the second injection well are completed. The third production well is nearing completion and is scheduled to being operating around the end of April or start of May 2010. Additionally, three more production wells and two injection wells will be drilled and completed on the field in 2010. The Azurite field is located on the Mer Profonde Sud Block, offshore Republic of the Congo. Murphy Oil serves as the operator and has a 50% working interest; PA Resources AB holds 35% interest; and SNPC holds the remaining 15% interest.

Murphy Oil Kicks Off Production at Azurite Offshore Congo
Type: Production Start

Aug. 2009 - Murphy announced that initial oil production has commenced at its Azurite field in the Mer Profonde Sud (MPS) block, in territorial water of the Republic of Congo. The Azurite development is located in about 4,500 feet (1,372 meters) of water and utilizes the industry's first Floating Production Storage and Offloading facility with drilling capability (FDPSO.)
