Project Description
The Lavani oil field is situated in Block 2 offshore Tanzania in a water depth of 7,675 feet (2,400 meters), which is operated by Statoil with a 65 percent stake. ExxonMobil serves as a partner on the field with a 35 percent stake.

Statoil made a discovery in the Lavani well after it encountered 312 feet (95 meters) of "excellent quality" reservoir sandstone with high porosity and high permeability. The Lavani well, drilled in 7,875 feet (2,400 meters) of water depth is being drilling by Ocean Rig Poseidon (UDW drillship).
