Located on the Norwegian continental shelf, the Oselvar field is close to the UK border and is situated on Production License 274 in 72 meters (236 feet) of water. The field is operated by Dong, which holds a 40% interest; Bayerngas Produksjon Norge holds 30%; Noreco holds 15%; and Wintershall holds the remaining 15%.
The Oselvar structure was discovered in the 1990s and PL 274 was awarded to DONG in 2002. Four years later, exploration drilling commenced utilizing the Maersk Guardian jackup, which discovered Oselvar. Shortly after, the appraisal well, 1/3-10, was drilled to investigate the reservoir's deliverability and to acquire the fluid characterization. Four years later, exploration drilling commenced utilizing the Maersk Guardian jackup, which discovered Oselvar. Shortly after, the appraisal well, 1/3-10, was drilled to investigate the reservoir's deliverability and to acquire the fluid characterization. The appraisal well was drilled to a total depth of 10,787 feet (3,288 meters) and stopped in sediments of Early Paleocene age. The reservoir thickness and the expected reservoir characteristics were confirmed, which proved Oselvar contained oil and associated gas.
Following the first appraisal well, two additional wells were drilled in the license, 1/3-10 and 1/3-10A. The latter two appraisal wells proved the field was commercially viable. Oselvar is estimated to contain 38 MMbo and 141 Bcf (4 Bcm).
Field Development
At a total cost of US $783 million (NOK 4.7 billion), Oselvar's field development received governmental approval on June 19, 2009. The plan consists of three subsea horizontal production wells to be drilled and connected to a nearby existing infrastructure for processing. The BP-operated Ula fixed platform is located 14 miles (23 kilometers) from the field on Block 7/12 in the Norwegian North Sea. From Ula, the oil will be transported via the Ekofisk/Norpipe system to the UK.
On June 10, 2009, Aker Solutions received a contract to deliver a complete subsea production system to the Oselvar field. The scope of work includes engineering, procurement and construction of a four-slot template with manifold, three subsea trees, control systems, subsea wellheads and 17 miles (28 kilometers) of steel tube umbilicals.
The field is currently undergoing development drilling, with the first well completed in 4Q11.
The partners are expecting to commence production in 2012.

Faroe Acquires Interest in Blane Field
Type: Acreage Acquisition
Oct. 2010 - Faroe Petroleum has agreed to acquire an 18% interest in the producing Blane oil field from Eni. The payment of US $95 million (£60 million) will be funded from cash and bank debt drawn against Faroe's borrowing base facility. As part of the transaction, the company will farm out a 20% interest in the Atlantic Margin Rannva exploration licenses (Faroese Licenses 012 and 017, and UKCS license P.1740) at the Faroe and UK border under "promoted terms". These prospective licenses span 690,412 acres (2,794 square kilometers) and are located in 1,640 feet (500 meters) of water, about 106 miles (170 kilometers) west of the BP-operated Schiehallion oil field. The Rannva licenses, which are wholly owned and operated by Faroe, contain two giant prospects along the axis of the Wyville-Thomson Ridge - one of the largest un-drilled anticlines in Northwest Europe, stated the press release. Currently, technical work is being performed in these licenses to define a well location. The Blane oil field is located on Block 30/3a on the Central Graben of the UK Continental Shelf. Joint venture partners in the field are Talisman Resources (43.0% and operator), Roc Oil (12.5%), Nippon Oil (14.0%) and Dana Petroleum (12.50%).

Drilling result of well 1/3-10, Oselvar in PL 274
Type: Development Activity
Jan. 2008 - The 1/3-10 well objectives were to investigate reservoir deliverability and to acquire fluid samples for fluids characterisation. It was drilled to a total depth of 3,288 metres and stopped in sediments of Early Paleocene age. The reservoir thickness and the expected reservoir characteristics were confirmed. The data collected proved oil/condensate and associated gas. The well was tested and the flowing rate was 530 Sm3 oil per day with a GOR of 476 Sm3/Sm3 and no water. In addition a down flank sidetrack, 1/3-10 A will de drilled directly following the test to establish the oil-water contact and for water sampling. The well will then be plugged and abandoned and BG Norge AS will take the Mærsk Guardian to continue drilling on the NCS.
