Project Description
The Svalin field is situated on Block 25/11 in 394 feet (120 meters) of water in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. Recoverable reserves are estimated at about 75 MMboe. There are two structures, Svalin C and Svalin M, containing similar quantities.

The Svalin development will be tied back to the Grane platform. Svalin M will be produced by a well drilled from the Grane platform, while Svalin C will be a subsea development with a 3.7-mile flowline to the Grane platform. Gas compression equipment at the Grane platform will be modified to handle gas from Svalin.

Svalin M was discovered in 2008 and its start-up is scheduled for the end of 2013. Svalin C was discovered in 1992 and its start-up is scheduled for summer 2014.

Norwegian MPE Approves Svalin PDO
Type: Development Activity

Nov. 2012 - Norway's Ministry of Petroleum and Energy recently approved the Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) of the Statoil-operated Svalin field in Production License 169. Recoverable oil reserves are estimated at roughly 75 million barrels equally split between the Svalin C and Svalin M formations. All production will flow through the Grane platform which will necessitate a modification to the existing gas compression unit. The C formation will be tied into the Grane infrastructure through a subsea template and 3.7-mile pipeline. The M formation will be developed through a well drilled directly from the Grane platform. Production from Svalin C is planned for start-up in summer 2014.

Statoil Submits PDO for Svalin
Type: Development Activity

Jun. 2012 - Statoil has submitted a plan for development and operation for the Svalin field to the Norwegian government and reported it expects to bring the field online in 2013. Recoverable reserves at the field are estimated at around 75 million barrels of oil equivalent, with two structures Svalin C and Svalin M containing similar quantities. The Svalin C and Svalin M discoveries will be developed through a 'fast-track' method that uses a standard solution involving processing by existing infrastructure. The Svalin development will be tied-back to the Grane platform. Svalin M will be produced by a well drilled from the Grane platform, while Svalin C will be a subsea development connected via a four-mile long flowline to the Grane platform. The hydrocarbons will utilize shared processing and export facilities. The gas compression facility at the Grane platform will be modified to handle gas from Svalin. Oil from the Svalin development will be transported, along with production from the Grane field, through the existing pipelines for storage and shipment from the oil terminal at Sture.

Aker Solutions Wins Svalin Umbilical Contract
Type: Contract Award

Apr. 2012 - Subsea 7 awarded Aker Solutions a contract for the design and fabrication of a control umbilical for the Svalin C project in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The scope of work includes a four-mile-long (six-kilometer-long) control umbilical, connectors, engineering and project management. In December 2011, Statoil awarded Aker Solutions the contract for engineering, procurement and construction of the subsea production system for the Svalin project. The Svalin umbilical will be delivered in 2Q 2013. Svalin is a fast-track oil field project located in the middle part of the North Sea, about five miles (eight kilometers) southwest of the Grane field and 115 miles (185 kilometers) west of Haugesund. The water depth is approximately 394 feet (120 meters).

Aker Solutions to Supply Subsea Equipment for Svalin Development
Type: Subsea Equipment

Dec. 2011 - Statoil awarded Aker Solutions a contract to engineer, procure and construct a subsea production system for the Svalin development in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The scope of work includes two subsea trees, one four-slot integrated template structure with process distribution manifold, subsea and topside production control systems, wellhead systems and remote connection systems. Final equipment deliveries are slated for 3Q 2013. Svalin is a fast-track oil field project situated in a water depth of 394 feet (120 meters).

Statoil has submitted a plan for development and operation for the Svalin field to the Norwegian government and reported it expects to bring the field online in 2013.

Discovery (Drilled) - Jul 24, 1992 to Jun 14, 2012

25/11-16 Svalin was discovered in 1992, 8 kilometres southwest of the Grane field, and includes the discovery 25/11-25 S made in 2008. The wells proved oil and associated gas in Paleocene to Lower Eocene sandstones in the Heimdal and Balder Formations at a depth of approximately 1 750 metres. The sandstones are deposited as submarine fans.

Exploratory Drilling - Jun 29, 1992 to Jul 23, 1992
