Situated in 2,841 feet (866 meters) of water in the Cape Three Points Block offshore Ghana is Sankofa, a recently discovered oil and gas field. Vitol serves as the operator of the discovery and holds a 90% interest; GNPC holds the remaining 10%.
Drilled by the Blackford Dolphin semisub and reaching a total depth of 10,085 feet (3,074 meters), the Sankofa-1A well encountered a net hydrocarbon column of roughly 118 feet (36 meters) containing 108 feet (33 meters) of gas and 10 feet (3 meters) of oil in reservoir sands of Campanian age.

Eni Boasts Sankofa East Appraisal
Type: Appraisal Operations
Jan. 2013 - Eni's Sankofa East discovery in the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) block has been successfully appraised by the Transocean Marianas (DW semisub). Sankofa East 2A was drilled 5 miles from the Sankofa East discovery well and reached TD at 13,287 feet. The well intersected 55 feet of net gas and condensate pay and 250 feet of gross oil pay in quality Cretaceous sands. Data indicates that the field could hold roughly 450 million barrels of oil with recoverable resources of up 150 million barrels. Engineering studies are underway to determine the most economical way to exploit the oil and gas reserves in the block. Eni estimates overall recoverable resources in the OCTP block of approximately 450 million barrels of oil equivalent including gas, associated liquids and oil.

Eni Successful With Latest Sankofa Well
Type: Drilling Operations
Sep. 2012 - Eni reports promising test results from the Sankofa East-1X well drilled off Ghana in the Offshore Cape Three Points block. The well was drilled to a total depth of 11,975 feet in 2,706 feet of water by the Transocean Marianas (DW semisub). Testing revealed 91 feet of gas and condensate pay as well as a gross oil column of 249 feet in Cretaceous sandstones. A production test of the oil-bearing zone delivered roughly 5,000 bopd; however, flow rates were constrained by surface infrastructure limitations. It is possible that the well will be suspended for future use in development operations. Eni plans to immediately drill other wells in the area to determine the size of the discovery and further evaluate the potential for commercial development.

Eni Confirms Sankofa Find Offshore Ghana
Type: Appraisal Operations
Apr. 2011 - Eni reported that the Sankofa-2 appraisal well found additional pay, significantly increasing the preliminary estimate of gas in place at the discovery. The Sankofa-2 well, drilled in a water depth of 2,835 feet (864 meters), tested and delivered a constrained rate of about 29.5 MMcf/d of high quality gas and 1,000 boepd of 52 degree API condensate. The well confirmed the presence of 115 feet (35 meters) net gas and condensate in Cretaceous age, as well as a 20 feet (6 meter) oil leg. The well is located in the Offshore Cape Three Points license, offshore Ghana. Eni Ghana Exploration and Production Limited is the operator of the OCTP license with a 47.22% interest; Vitol Upstream Ghana Limited holds 37.78%; and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation holds 15%.

Ghana Firm Claims New Finding of Offshore Oil, Gas
Type: New Discovery
Sep. 2009 - The Sankofa-A1 well drilled at Cape Three Points Block on Ghana's offshore by Ghana National Petroleum Corporation in conjunction with Vitol discovered a net hydrocarbon column of approximately 118 feet (36 meters). It comprises 108 feet (33 meters) of gas and 10 feet (3 meters) of oil in reservoir sands of Campanian age. The Sankofa-1A well is located 24 miles (38 kilometers) east of the Jubilee field and 13 miles (21 kilometers) east of the Odum discovery in the West Cape Three Points Block. Drilling at the well was suspended for possible re-entry. The target reservoir was successfully cored and a full wire line logging program was also run. The statement said the well was drilled with the Blackford Dolphin semisub in water depths of 2,841 feet (866 meters) and reached a total depth of 12,152 feet (3,704 meters). The Vitol-operated block covers a total area of 513,979 acres (2,080 square kilometers) in water depths ranging from 164 to 4,593 feet (50 to 1,400 meters).
