Project Description
Considered Spain’s largest oil field, Casablanca is situated in 295 feet (134 meters of water about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Tarragona. Chevron was operator through the early development phase of the field, while Repsol (formerly ENIEPSA) succeeded to the operatorship for the main production phase.

The Casablanca field was discovered in 1975 with the Casablanca-1 well by Chevron. The well was put on an extended production test using a drilling BOP and riser. Test results indicated that the Casablanca structure was capable of high production rates.

The main production phase began in 1980, with peak production of 44,000 bopd being achieved in 1983.

Satellite Fields

The Montanazo and Lubina fields are located 31 miles (50 kilometers) off the east coast of Spain in the Mediterranean Sea.

Montanazo, drilled to 7,723 feet (2,354 meters) in 2,415 feet (736 meters) of water, tested at 3,800 bopd of 32 degree gravity oil. Lubina, drilled to 8,002 feet (2,439 meters) in 2,175 feet (663 meters) of water about 2 miles (4 kilometers) north of Montanazo, made 3,700 bopd of 31.5 degree gravity oil.

The operator will connect each discovery to the Casablanca platform, which could produce for around five to seven years.

In February 2011, Repsol awarded Technip a contract to develop the two fields. Technip’s scope includes engineering, supply, installation, and pre-commissioning of an 11-km flexible pipeline system to connect two production wells to the Casablanca platform.

Offshore installation was scheduled for first-half 2011 using the Deep Constructor, a Technip deepwater construction vessel.

Marine Subsea Completes Prep Work at Casablanca Platform
Type: Status Update

Jul. 2010 - Marine Subsea (UK) has completed a contract for Repsol at the Casablanca platform. The firm used its multipurpose offshore intervention vessel, Sarah, to prepare subsea equipment for installation work scheduled for next year, and to modify trawl-protection structures at two well sites. The Casablanca field is located approximately 37 miles (60 kilometers) offshore Tarragona, Spain in a water depth over 440 feet (134 meters).
