The Deep Blue prospect (OCS-G-21812, OCS-G-21814) is situated on Green Canyon Blocks 723 and 724 in 5,098 feet (1,554 meters) of water in the Gulf of Mexico. Noble Energy, holding a 75% interest, operates deep Blue, and Samson holds the remaining 25% interest.
Noble Energy reported that appraisal drilling will not occur on its Deep Blue prospect at this time. Although hydrocarbons were found in both the initial exploration well and subsequent sidetrack, the company and its partners have decided not to proceed with additional appraisal activities at this time.
The Deep Blue well was originally spud late 2009 and sidetrack operations were underway when the moratorium was announced. Noble Energy was required to suspend operations, and the rig working at that time ...

Clyde Boudreaux Heads for Noble's Deep Blue Prospect

Nov. 2009 - The Noble Clyde Boudreaux was contracted to spud an exploration well at the Noble Energy operated Deep Blue prospect in the Gulf of Mexico. Deep Blue covers Green Canyon blocks 723, 724, and 768 in water depths of up to 5,097 feet (1,554 meters). The rig will drill exploratory well #1 on GC 723 to a proposed well depth of 33,00 feet. Noble holds a 75% working interest in the prospect while Samson holds the remaining 25%.

Noble Submits Exploration Plan for Deep Blue Prospect

Jul. 2009 - Noble Energy has submitted an Exploration Plan (EP) to the Minerals Management Service (MMS) for the Deep Blue prospect in the Green Canyon area. The Deep Blue prospect covers Green Canyon Blocks 723, 724 and 768 in water depths of 5,097 feet (1,554 meters). Newfield proposes to drill, evaluate, case and temporarily abandon 4 wells, GC724 locations A & B and GC723 C, D and E. The wells will be drilled sequentially and the proposed activities should take about 140 days to complete. If commercial quantities of hydrocarbons are discovered a Development Operations Coordination Document will be submitted for approval. Noble is the operator and holds a 75% interest in the prospect, while Newfield holds the remaining 25%.

Noble Reports on Impact Opportunity at the Howard Weil Conference

Mar. 2009 - Noble Energy reported that its Deep Blue prospect is another important impact opportunity. Deep Blue, Noble's largest Gulf of Mexico prospect to date, covers Green Canyon blocks 723, 724 and 768 in water depths of 5,100 feet (1,554 meters). The prospect has a 30% probability of geologic success and is on trend with industry discoveries. Noble plans to drill an exploration well in the fourth quarter of 2009 to a proposed well depth of 32,000 feet (9,754 meters) with a lower Miocene subsalt objective. Noble is evaluating partner proposals. Noble is the operator with a 75% working interest in the prospect with Samson holding the remaining 25%.

Samedan Submits Initial Exploration Plan to MMS for Green Canyon Area

Jan. 2004 - Samedan Oil Corporation submitted an Initial Exploration Plan to the MMS for Green Canyon blocks 724 and 768. The plan proposes to use a semisub rig to drill two wells in GC724 and two wells in GC768. Samedan is the operator and holds a 100% working interest in the prospect.

Noble Energy has announced that the Deep Blue exploration well on Green Canyon 723 in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico reached a depth of 32,684 feet. The well found hydrocarbon pay in multiple Miocene intervals. Noble Energy and partners are proceeding to sidetrack the well to determine the extent and commerciality of the pay zones encountered.
