Project Description
Longtom is situated in a water depth of 184 feet (56 meters) offshore Gippsland Basin, Australia, in exploration permit VIC/P54. The gas field is wholly owned and operated by Nexus Energy.

In 1995, the Longtom field was discovered with the drilling of Longtom-1/ST1, which encountered dry gas. Due to the reservoir's poor quality, the discovery was deemed uneconomic by the previous operator who surrendered the field shortly after. Nine years later with a new operator conducting exploratory drilling, Longtom-2St-1 was drilled, penetrating additional gas-filled sands. The well intersected a 1,312-foot (400-meter) gas column in the Emperor formation.

Nexus then decided to drill another appraisal well, Longtom-3, in July 2006 by the Ocean Patriot semisub, culminating with the Longtom-3 horizontal production well. The results from both wells proved the field was commercially viable; front-end engineering and design was obtained for the field's development while Nexus submitted a preliminary field development plan to the government at the end of 2006.

While the operator awaited governmental approval, a fourth well, Longtom-4 was drilled in September 2008. Drilling reached a depth of 8,530 feet (2,600 meter) and encountered the first gas sand of the Admiral formation as anticipated. Longtom-4, the field's second development well, was suspended while field development preparations commenced.

Field Development

Receiving governmental approval in October 2007, Longtom's field development compromises three wells tied to a 12-inch-diameter pipeline. The new pipeline is then connected to the existing Patricia-Baleen gas pipeline, which exports the gas onshore to the Santos-operated gas plant. A production facility is not needed for the development or production on the Longtom gas field.

In June 2009, the offshore installation and connection of the pipeline to the Longtom field was nearing completion. The pipeline was laid on the seabed and the control system installation and hook-up work of the two production wells continued as planned.

The field commenced production on Oct. 23, 2009, with plans to drill and tie-back the third well on the Longtom field in 2011.

Nexus Energy Eradicating Longtom Producton Problem
Type: Status Update

Jun. 2012 - Nexus Energy Limited announced that the vessel to inspect and potentially rectify the electrical fault that caused the suspension of production on the Longtom field has arrived. Initial inspections have identified the fault to be contained within a specific section of the offshore system, which has enabled an engineering solution to be developed with implementation and associated production expected by month end. Given the mobilization of the specialized vessel, the opportunity is being taken to expand the inspection program to include additional sections of the offshore system, stated the company.

Series of Short-term Production Interruptions Occurs on Processing Facility
Type: Status Update

Jun. 2012 - Nexus Energy reported that a series of short-term production interruptions have occurred due to an intermittent electrical fault at the Patricia-Baleen gas processing facility. Production at the facility has been suspended, with outage expected to continue until the fault is identified and fixed through an offshore intervention program. The location of the fault has not yet been determined and could be within the Santos or Nexus offshore facilities. A vessel has been mobilized and is scheduled to arrive at the field on June 15, 2012, depending on weather, to commence the inspection and rectification works. The facility receives gas via a pipeline from Bexu’s offshore Longtom field.

Nexus Halts Longtom Production after Mercury Found in Gas
Type: Status Update

Apr. 2010 - Nexus Energy halted production at its Longtom field after low levels of mercury were detected in gas produced by the Longtom-4 well. Test samples were acquired from the Longtom-3 well over the weekend, and if test results confirm acceptable mercury levels, gas production will recommence. If not, the operator will have to install mercury-removal equipment, which will take at least two months and cost about US $ 1.8 million (A $2 million). During the installation period, production will be deferred. Longtom is situated in a water depth of 184 feet (56 meters) offshore Gippsland Basin, Australia in exploration permit VIC/P54.

Nexus Celebrates Producer-Status with Longtom Asset
Type: Status Update

Nov. 2009 - Since Longtom came online, the field has been producing gas and condensate at a stable rate for just over two weeks via Santos' onshore gas plant in Orbost. The field lies in a water depth of 184 feet (56 meters) offshore Gippsland Basin, Australia, in exploration permit VIC/P54. The operator is continuing to monitor the pressure measurement of the field, as well as the subsea gathering and control systems, but all is functioning as expected. Longtom's field development compromises three wells tied to a 12-inch-diameter pipeline, that is then connected to the existing Patricia-Baleen gas pipeline, which exports the gas onshore to the Santos-operated gas plant.

Nexus Turns on Taps at Longtom Gas Project
Type: Production Start

Oct. 2009 - With commissioning of the production and processing system underway, Nexus Energy has commenced producing gas from the Longtom field, located in 184 ft. (56 m) of water off the coast of Australia in the Gippsland Basin. The field, which is wholly owned by Nexus Energy, is covered by exploration permit VIC/P54, and Nexus has taken this asset from discovery to market.

Nexus to Raise $74MM for Longtom, Crux Developments
Type: Status Update

Sep. 2009 - Nexus successfully completed a placement to institutional and sophisticated investors, raising gross proceeds of approximately $31 million. Further, eligible shareholders will be invited to participate in a fully underwritten non-renounceable rights issue to raise an additional $43 million (before costs and expenses). The placement and rights issue will strengthen Nexus' balance sheet and provide financial flexibility through to the end of 2010. Proceeds will be used to fund ongoing development of the Longtom gas project, long lead items for the Crux liquids project and general working capital.

Nexus Secures Offshore Vessel to Complete Longtom Gas Project
Type: Status Update

Jul. 2009 - Nexus advised that a suitable diving support and installation vessel was secured to complete the remaining offshore installation work for the Longtom gas project (VIC/L29) in the Gippsland Basin, offshore Victoria. The vessel will be mobilized from Singapore and is expected to arrive on the Longtom site late August 2009 to complete the hook-up of the installed equipment. The completion of the installation work is now scheduled to occur between September 28 and October 15, 2009. The range of scheduled completion dates account for both variations in the mobilization date for the vessel and potential weather interruptions during the installation work program. Development costs for the Longtom gas project are expected to increase by approximately 5% as a result of this delay.

Longtom Gas Project Construction Interrupted
Type: Status Update

Jul. 2009 - Nexus advised that the offshore construction work for the Longtom gas project (VIC/L29) in the Gippsland Basin, offshore Victoria, was interrupted. The delays occurred because of a demobilization of a diving support vessel, due to a contractual dispute in relation to its ongoing charter. Nexus is in the process of securing an alternative diving support and installation vessel, and the offshore installation work is anticipated to recommence in approximately three weeks. The subsea gas pipeline to connect Longtom production wells to Santos Ltd's Patricia Baleen offshore pipeline and the Longtom control umbilical have been laid on the seabed. The remaining offshore work involves diving operations to hook-up the installed equipment. Nexus anticipates being ready to supply gas during calendar 3Q 2009.
