Project Description
The Hammamet West oil field is situated in the Bargou Exploration Permit in the Gulf of Hammemet, Tunisia in a water depth of 164 to 197 feet (50 to 60 meters). Cooper Energy serves as the operator and holds a 30%% interest in the fiel; Dragon Oil holds 55%; and Jacka Resources holds the remaining 15% interest.

Hammamet West was found by exploration well Hammamet West-1, discovering 23 feet (7 meters) of oil in the Birsa sandstone formation. Three decades later, the field was revisited and appraised, discovering a further 630 feet (192 meters) of oil in the deeper Abiod carbonate formation. In 2005, Cooper Energy acquired 100% interest of the permit and began considering options on how to best develop the field. Currently, new 3D seismic is needed to effectively appraise ...

Three decades later, the field was revisited and appraised, discovering a further 630 feet (192 meters) of oil in the deeper Abiod carbonate formation. In 2005, Cooper Energy acquired 100% interest of the permit and began considering options on how to best develop the field. Currently, new 3D seismic is needed to effectively appraise the oil field. The operator is considering awarding a contract to CGGVeritas for a 43,243-acre (175 square kilometer) high-resolution 3D seismic survey. Once the data is reviewed, Cooper plans to drill a Hammamet West-3 appraisal well.

Several field development options are being considered with the help of Worley Parsons, which was contracted to assist in the development of the field. One option being considered is to develop the field by a small-unmanned platform to export oil and gas to an onshore plant by a pipeline.

The oil field is estimated to hold more than 200 million barrels of oil.

GSP Jupiter Turns to the Right Off Tunisia
Type: Appraisal Operations

Apr. 2013 - Jacka Resources reports that drilling is underway at Hammamet West-3 in the Bargou exploration permit offshore Tunisia. The well was spud April 4 and the conductor has been run. Drilling is being carried out by the GSP Jupiter (300' ILC) in 177 feet of water. Hammamet West-3 will be drilled near-horizontal through the Abiod formation in which oil was discovered while drilling the Hammamet West-2 well. The Abiod reservoir has proven productive in fields adjacent to the Bargou permit. Cooper Energy (30%) operates the permit on behalf of its partners Dragon Oil (55%) and Jacka Resources (15%).

GSP Jupiter Prepares to Spud West Hammamet-3
Type: Drilling Operations

Mar. 2013 - Jacka Resources reports the GSP Jupiter (300' ILC) to be on location and rigging up to spud the Hammamet West-3 well in the Bargou Block, offshore Tunisia. The well is located 10 miles offshore in 164 feet of water. West Hammamet-3 will be drilled near horizontal through the naturally fractured Abiod formation to test oil productivity.

Cooper Secures Rig for Hammamet West-3 Well
Type: Status Update

Jul. 2012 - Cooper Energy has secured a drilling rig from Romanian Grup Servicii Petroliere (GSP) for its Hammamet West-3 well on the Bargou exploration permit, offshore Tunisia. The Bargou joint venture, with Cooper as operator, had signed a letter of intent with GSP for the use of the jackup rig GSP Jupiter (300'ILC) to drill the well which is scheduled to spud in December 2012. However, the spud date is dependent on when the rig is released from its prior commitments, so drilling might not occur until March 2013. Hammamet West-3 is being drilled to further assess the oil resource within the Abiod formation. Cooper intends to drill the well to penetrate the reservoir with a slightly deviated pilot hole. A highly deviated wellbore will then be drilled and tested, to confirm the oil productivity of the formation.

Cooper Energy Preps Hammamet Appraisal
Type: Status Update

Apr. 2012 - Cooper Energy is preparing to drill the Hammamet West-3 well in the Bargou permit offshore Tunisia. The company has awarded a contract for well management services to AGR Petroleum, which includes planning and executing drilling operations and post well activity. Drilling of the Hammamet West-3 well is targeted to commence in 4Q 2012. Hammamet was discovered in 1967 and appraised in 1990.

Dragon Oil to Acquire Acreage Offshore Tunisia
Type: Status Update

Oct. 2011 - Dragon Oil has signed a farm-in agreement with Cooper Energy to establish a 55% participating interest in and, in any development phase, assume operatorship of the Bargou exploration permit, offshore Tunisia. Dragon Oil will receive a 55% participating interest in the Bargou permit by paying 75% of the cost to drill the Hammamet West-3 well. Under the agreement, Dragon oil has placed a cost cap of US $26.6 million, and if the cost exceeds this amount, then the costs will be shared among the joint venture partners pro-rated to their participating interest. The well plan consists of a pilot hole followed by a horizontal section to intersect the fractures within the Abiod formation thereby increasing the flow potential of the reservoir. This well is expected to be drilled in 2012. The farm-in is subject to approvals by the Government of Tunisia and the joint venture partners. Following completion of the transaction, the Bargou Joint Venture will consist of Dragon Oil (55 percent), Cooper Energy (30 percent) and Jacka Resources. The permit resides in the Gulf of Hammamet in the Mediterranean Sea, spanning an area of 1.1 million acres (4,616 square kilometers) in water depths ranging between 164 to 328 feet (50 to 100 meters).

Cooper Energy Commences Seismic Program at Nabeul Permit
Type: Operator Update

Sep. 2011 - Cooper Energy has completed a 74,132-acre (300-square kilometer) 3D acquisition program in the Hammamet offshore permit. The data acquisition was conducted over the Tazerka oil field and Kasserine prospect areas. The operator anticipates that the processed 3D data will be available for examination in 2Q 2012. Additionally, Cooper commenced a 148,263-acre (600-square kilometer) 3D acquisition program in the Nabeul permit. The seismic survey is being conducted over the western portion of the permit, adjacent to the Birsa and Oudna producing oil fields. The purpose of the program is to mature the Alpha, Gamma and Delta leads into drillable prospects. The program is scheduled for completion in roughly 50 days.

Reserves Estimate of Hammamet West Increases by 37%
Type: Operator Update

Oct. 2010 - Cooper Energy has increased the Hammamet West oil field contingent resources estimate by 37%, following interpretation of high-resolution 3D seismic data. The reserves upgrade is due mainly to an increase in the size of the Abiod formation structure, Cooper Energy stated. The CR estimate is now 67 million barrels of oil, compared to the previous estimate of 49 million barrels of oil. The Bargou joint venture (Cooper Energy, operator, 85%; Jacka Resources 15%) will further process the 3D seismic data to assist imaging of the Abiod carbonate formation, and to complete the design of a Hammamet West horizontal well to test the production capacity of the Abiod formation. An appraisal well is planned for the third quarter of 2011, subject to rig availability. The Hammamet West oil field is situated in the Bargou Exploration Permit in the Gulf of Hammemet, Tunisia in a water depth of 164 to 197 feet (50 to 60 meters).

Cooper Estimates 200MM Barrels for Hammamet West
Type: Status Update

Nov. 2009 - The Hammamet West oil field, located in the Gulf of Hammamet, Tunisia, may hold more than 200 million barrels of oil. Cooper Energy, the operator, announced a conceptual field development plan has been finalized and plans to acquire 109 miles (175 kilometers) of 3D seismic of the area. Cooper expects to be able to use a small, unmanned platform to export oil and gas from the field to an onshore plant via a multiphase pipeline.
