Project Description
The Iracema prospect, located on Block BM-S-11, is located offshore Brazil in the Santos Basin. Iracema is located in a water depth if 7,251 feet (2,210 meters) and is a sub-structure of the giant oil find – Tupi. Petrobras serves as operater of the Iracema prospect, holding a 65% interest; BG holds 25%; and Galp holds 10%.

The West Taurus semisub spudded Iracema, well 4-BRSA-711-RJS, on Feb. 27, 2009. The well targeted a pre-salt depth of 20,587 feet (6,275 meters).

Towards the end of the year, the Iracema well confirmed the presence of light oil in the greater Tupi area.

In March 2012, the partners commenced a new well test in the Iracema area. The Cidade de Sao Vicente FPSO was connected to the RJS-647 well in water depths of 7,257 feet (2,212 meters). ...

The FPSO will operate in the area for approximately six months, gathering technical information on reservoir behavior and oil flow in the subsea lines, amongst other data. During this initial test phase the well is expected to produce at around 10,000 bopd, constrained by facilities.

The information gathered will support the development of the final production system in the area, expected to be in operation by the end of 2014 with the installation of the 150,000 bopd capacity FPSO Cidade de Mangaratiba.

Petrobras Signs LoI for Iracema Norte FPSO
Type: Contract Award

Nov. 2012 - Petrobras and its partners in block BM-S-11 announced the signing of a Letter of Intent with Schahin and MODEC for the charter of an FPSO that will be used for the development of the Iracema Norte area in the Santos Basin. The vessel will be operated by Schahin and MODEC and chartered to the Consortium for a period of 20 years. MODEC is tasked with taking VLCC Alga and converting it into FPSO Cidade de Itaguai MV26 which is to be installed on location in December 2015. Once operational, the vessel will be capable of handling 150,000 bopd, 280 MMscf of gas per day and storing a total of 1,600,000 barrels of liquids. SOFEC, a subsidiary of MODEC, will design the mooring spread that will hold the FPSO on location in 7,349 feet of water.

Petrobras Commences Iracema Well Test
Type: Status Update

Mar. 2012 - Petrobras and partner BG Group have commenced a new well test in the Iracema area of the BM-S-11 concession in the pre-salt Santos Basin. The Cidade de Sao Vicente FPSO was connected to the RJS-647 well in water depths of 7,257 feet (2,212 meters). The FPSO will operate in the area for approximately six months gathering technical information on reservoir behavior and oil flow in the subsea lines amongst other data. Petrobras, Partners Charter FPSOs Offshore Brazil
Type: Facility Construction

Jan. 2011 - Petrobras and partners have entered a tender process for the charter of two additional Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessels for use in the full field development of the discoveries on Blocks BM-S-9 and BM-S-11 in the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil. Each vessel will have a production capacity of 150,000 bopd and about 212 MMcf/d. The modules are being tendered for start-up in 2014. One FPSO is allocated for the Guara Norte area on Block BM-S-9 and the other is for the southern area of the Cernambi field (formerly named Iracema) on Block BM-S-11. To date, with the addition of these two new modules, a total of 13 FPSOs will be designated for the two blocks, including the Carioca and Guara areas on Blocks BM-S-9 and BM-S-11, the Lula (formerly known as Tupi) and Cernambi fields, as well as the Iara area. The first permanent vessel is already in operation on the Lula field, and two additional vessels are due onstream on the Lula field and the Guara area in 2013. Additionally, contracts for eight 150,000 bopd FPSO hulls were awarded in November 2010, with start-up expected between 2015 and 2017.

Petrobras, Partners Sign $3.4B FPSO Deal for Pre-Salt Area
Type: Contract Award

Nov. 2010 - Petrobras and its partners have signed two contracts with the Brazilian outfit Engevix Engenharia S.A. for the construction of eight hulls for platforms to be used in the first phase of production development for the pre-salt area in the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil. The total value of the eight hull EPC contracts is about US $3.46 billion. Once completed, the FPSOs will have the capacity to process up to 150,000 bopd and 212 MMcf/d of natural gas (6 MMcm/d). The hulls will be constructed at the Rio Grande Naval Pole starting in March 2011. The first two hulls will be delivered in 2013, while the others are planned for 2014 and 2015, with production commencing by 2017. Six of the eight FPSOs are allocated for Block BM-S-11, in which the Tupi, Iracema and Iara fields are situated; and the other two vessels are designated for Block BM-S-9, where the Guara and Carioca fields are located. The vessels are in addition to the first permanent FPSO already in use on the Tupi field. Petrobras operates Block BM-S-11, holding a 65% interest. Partners in the consortium include BG (25%), and Galp (10%). Block BM-S-9 is also operated by Petrobras, owning a 45% interest; BG owns 30%; and Repsol owns 25%.

BG Group Boosts Reserves to 2.7Bboe in Santos Basin
Type: Status Update

Nov. 2010 - BG Group has upgraded gross resources for the Tupi, Iracema and Guara fields by 2.7 billion barrels of oil equivalent, bringing the total to 10.8 billion boe, representing a 34% increase. The company's analysis is based on the development of new and sophisticated reservoir models that incorporated new information, including 790,737 acres (3,200 square kilometers) of 3D seismic data; results from nine completed wells (including the 2 original discovery wells on Tupi and Guara); 10 drill stem tests; and the detailed insights gained from the extended well test on Tupi, which has produced 7.6 MMboe to date. BG Group engaged consultants Miller and Lents (MLL) to provide independent verification of the estimates of the fields and have certified the gross resources to be 10.8 billion boe. All three fields are progressing with development, including the first permanent FPSO is now on the Tupi field and commenced production in October 2010; two additional FPSO's were ordered, and will be deployed on the Tupi and Guara fields; negotiations are progressing on the deployment of additional production modules for Tupi, Iracema and Guara; and the gas export pipeline to Mexilhao was completed. The fields are located in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil.

Petrobras Cites Record Productivity from Iracema Well Tests
Type: Status Update

Nov. 2009 - Two formation tests on well 4-RJS-647, located on the Iracema field, were completed, proving the high productivity of the pre-salt carbonate reservoirs. Drilled to a depth of 16,404 feet (5,000 meters) in 7,251 feet (2,210 meters) of water, the wells flowed at a rate of 5,500 bopd of 32 degree API. West Eminence Heads for Offshore Brazil Next Week
Type: Appraisal Operations

Jun. 2009 - The West Eminence rig is scheduled to head out for drilling in Brazil's Santos Basin at the end of June 2009. The West Eminence arrived in Brazil on May 30 and has been undergoing inspections and acceptance testing. West Eminence will first head for the much-ballyhooed BM-S-11 block, home to the Tupi and Iara finds. The subsalt oil prospects are estimated to hold recoverable reserves of between 8 billion and 12 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The West Eminence will complete work on the second of two wells being drilled at the Iracema prospect. Seadrill's West Taurus started two wells at Iracema, and is currently on site at the first well to complete drilling.
