To date, one well has been drilled on Block 47 in a water depth of 5,876 feet (1,791 meters) and was temporarily abandoned. Under a DOCD submitted to MMS on August 12, 2009, the operator proposes to complete the well and install a right-of-way pipeline with an associated umbilical and place the well on production. The proposed pipeline will tie in to the Main Pass 225, Platform A, located in 255 feet (69 meters) of water. The manned facility is operated by Dauphin Island Gathering Partners.

Well A is scheduled for completion during 2010 using the Diamond Offshore Ocean Confidence semisub. The well will be tied-back to Platform A via a control umbilical with electrical and hydraulic functions.

The Dalmatian South field is located on Desoto Canyon Block 48 in a water depth of 6,325 feet (1,928 meters). Newfield serves as the operator of the prospect, holding a 37.5% interest; Murphy holds 50% interest; and Mariner holds the remaining 12.5% interest.

Dalmatian South Discovery Confirmed
Type: New Discovery

Nov. 2012 - Dalmatian South, operated by Murphy Oil and located in De Soto Canyon block 134, has been confirmed as an oil discovery by partner Ecopetrol. The discovery is Ecopetrol's third in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico since 2011 and the second of 2012. The Noble Jim Day (DW semisub) drilled the initial exploration well and subsequent sidetrack in 6,394 feet of water. Hydrocarbons were confirmed through electric logs and fluid samples. Dalmatian South lies 6-miles to the southeast of the main Dalmatian field. Production startup from Dalmatian is planned for 1Q 2014 through a tieback to the Petronius platform.

Technip Awarded Dalmatian Development Contract
Type: Development Activity

Oct. 2012 - Murphy Exploration & Production has awarded Technip a lump sum contract for the development of the Dalmatian field in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Dalmatian is located in the De Soto Canyon area in water depths ranging from 530 to 1800 feet. Scope of the project will include the engineering, project management, fabrication and installation of a gas riser, an oil riser, 23 miles of flowline and associated subsea structures. Technip will also carry out the installation and pre-commissioning of a main subsea control umbilical and infield umbilical with associated foundation and flying leads. Offshore installation is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013.

The company is targeting various Miocene prospects, including the Dalmatian South prospect, which is very similar to their 2010 Dalmatian North discovery. Furthermore, Murphy has received official sanction of a three-well subsea tie-back of the Dalmatian field to the Petronius compliant tower production platform.

Murphy Discovers Oil In De Soto Canyon Block 4
Type: New Discovery

May. 2010 - Oil was discovered in Murphy Oil's DC4 well in the De Soto Canyon Block 4. The well encountered 156 feet (48 meters) of oil pay in three zones while reaching a total depth of 13,195 feet (4,022 meters). The well offsets Murphy's 2009 gas discovery at Dalmatian. Dalmatian, with a bottomhole location in Block 48, found 120 feet (37 meters) of gas pay in nearly 5,900 feet (1,798 meters) of water. Murphy operates the block.
