Final Well Comes Up Dry Off French Guiana
Type: Appraisal Operations

Nov. 2013 - Shell's final well of its French Guiana offshore drilling program has been drilled total depth and is being plugged and abandoned as a dry hole. The well was drilled by the Stena IceMAX (UDW drillship) to 21,194 feet with no indication of hydrocarbons. Shell and its joint venture partners will integrate the data gathered during the Guyane Maritime Permit drilling campaign and combine it with 3D seismic to identify possible future exploration targets within the license.

Stena IceMAX Spuds Final Well in Shell's French Guiana Program
Type: Drilling Operations

Aug. 2013 - Northern Petroleum, junior partner in the Guyane Maritime Permit, announced the start of drilling operations at the GM-ES-5 well. The well is being drilled by the Stena IceMAX (UDW drillship) to appraise the 2011 Zaedyus oil discovery. GM-ES-5 is the final well in Shell's four-well drilling campaign in the Guyana Maritime Permit. Shell operates the permit and maintains a 45% stake. Its partners include Total (25%), Tullow (27.5%), Wessex Exploration (1.25%) and Northern Petroleum (1.25%).

Zaedyus-2 Proves Non-Commercial
Type: Drilling Operations

Dec. 2012 - Shell's Zaedyus-2 appraisal well offshore French Guiana failed to locate commercial quantities of hydrocarbons in spite of intersecting 287 net feet of reservoir quality sands. Logging and data sampling results indicate that the Zaedyus-2 reservoirs are not in communication with those discovered in the Zaedyus-1 well a little more than three miles away. Future drilling of the Zaedyus fan system will likely target the down-dip elements of Zaedyus Deep. The well was drilled to a total depth of 20,341 feet by the Stena Drillmax ICE (UDW drillship). Once logging operations are complete, the rig will sail to the next well in the four-well drilling program.

Tullow Sidetracks Zaedyus Offshore French Guiana
Type: Drilling Operations

Nov. 2011 - Tullow Oil is currently sidetracking the Zaedyus exploratory well (GM-ES-1) in the Guyane Maritime Permit. Drilling of the sidetrack well is occuring to recover reservoir cores with completion of operations expected in mid-November. The consortium is working on the 2012 drilling program and anticipates it will include 3D seismic and the drilling of two wells. This program should begin in mid-2012 once all the necessary approvals have been obtained. Shell should obtain operatorship of the block in early 2012, subject to Government and Joint Venture agreements. The consortium consists of Shell (45 percent), Tullow (27.5 percent), Total (25 percent) and Northpet (2.5 percent). The Guyane Maritime License is operated by Tullow with a 27.5% interest. Partners in the license include Shell (45%), Total (25%), and Northpet (2.5%).

Tullow Finds Oil in French Guiana
Type: New Discovery

Sep. 2011 - Tullow Oil made an oil discovery in the Zaedyus exploratory well (GM-ES-1) offshore French Guiana. The well encountered 236 feet (72 meters) of net oil pay in two turbidite fans. Drilling results, wire line logs and samples of reservoir fluids show that the well found good-quality reservoir sands on prognosis. The well, situated in a water depth of 10,000 feet (3,048 meters), reached a depth of 18,737 feet (5,711 meters). Exploratory drilling will continue, and the well will deepen to a depth of 19,685 feet (6,000 meters) to calibrate the deeper geology. Tullow will then likely sidetrack the well to allow cores to be obtained over the reservoir sections. Drilling operations are being performed in the Guyane Maritime license using the ENSCO 8503 semisub. The Zaedyus discovery unlocked a new hydrocarbon basin within several neighboring prospects that were mapped, so the operator will now consider performing an appraisal program and an extensive follow-up with exploration activities. The Guyane Maritime License is operated by Tullow with a 27.5% interest. Partners on the license include Shell (45%), Total (25%), and Northpet (2.5%).
