Project Description
Located in the Gulf of Mexico on Mississippi Canyon Blocks 459, 460, 504 and a portion of 503, the Appaloosa field is situated in a water depth of 2,800 feet (853 meters). Eni, the operator, owns 100% interest.

On Dec. 7, 2005, Eni submitted an IEP to drill, complete and test five exploratory wells on the Appaloosa prospect. In 2007, the Deepwater Millennium drillship drilled two wells, but a discovery was not reported. A year later, the GSF Celtic Sea semisub was contracted and drilled well MC459 #1. The drilling encountered oil hydrocarbons.

Appaloosa Field Development

In December 2008, Appaloosa was approved for field development at a total investment of $228 million. Development includes subsea wells linked to an existing area facility, the Corral platform. The oil treatment capacity of the platform will be expanded, in order to accommodate the production increase from the Appaloosa field.

First oil from Appaloosa commenced in June 2011, and is flowing at a rate of 7,000 boepd.

Eni Brings Appaloosa Online
Type: Production Start

Jul. 2011 - Eni has commenced production from the Appaloosa field in the Gulf of Mexico. Production came online June 21, 2011 through a subsea development and a 20-mile (32-kilometer) long flowline tied-back to the Corral platform. The well is flowing at a rate of about 7,000 boepd. Located in the Gulf of Mexico on Mississippi Canyon Blocks 459, 460, 504 and a portion of 503, the Appaloosa field is situated in a water depth of 2,800 feet (853 meters). Eni Gets BOEMRE Nod for GOM Drilling
Type: Status Update

Apr. 2011 - The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement has approved Eni's deepwater drilling permit to sidetrack well No. SS001 in Mississippi Canyon block 460 in 2,823 feet (860 meters) of water. The well is located about 57 miles (92 kilometers) southeast of Venice, Louisiana. The operator had a rig on location when drilling activities were halted due to the temporary drilling suspensions.

Technip Inks GOM Subsea Contract
Type: Contract Award

Nov. 2009 - Technip was awarded a subsea contract for the ENI-operated Appaloosa development project in the Gulf of Mexico. The workscope involves tying-back the Appaloosa well to the Corral platform, situated on Mississippi Canyon Block 305, and includes project management and surveys, engineering, pipeline, subsea and umbilical installation and pre-commissioning and de-watering of the flowline. Appaloosa is located in 2,798 feet (853 meters) of water, spanning Mississippi Canyon Blocks 459, 460 and partial blocks 503, 504. The discovery was made on MC460 (BH MC459) in May 2008 by Transocean's GSF Celtic Sea, a 4th generation, deepwater semisubmersible. ENI wholly owns and operates the project.

Transocean Amirante to Drill Development Well at Appaloosa
Type: Development Activity

May. 2009 - ENI contracted the Transocean Amirante semisub to drill a development well at the Appaloosa field located on Mississippi Canyon Block 460 (BH - 459). ENI wholly owns and operates the field.

ENI has Sactioned the Appaloosa Unit Development
Type: Development Activity

Jan. 2009 - The Appaloosa Unit development was sanctioned in December, 2008 with a total investment of $228.1 million.
