Project Description
The Darwin prospect is a high impact wildcat exploration well located on the Veslem√ły High in the frontier western part of the Barents Sea. The prospect is a large closure at multiple levels, which is contained within the PL531 licence and located approximately 37 to 50 miles to the south west of the recent Statoil Skrugard and Havis oil discoveries.

Multiple targets have been identified on 3D seismic and the first exploration well spudded in early March 2013. This well will test the main Darwin prospect and will contribute towards further de-risking of the large upside potential in the remainder of the licence area. The drilling operations are being carried out by the Transocean Barents (UDW semisub).

Repsol Drills Darwin Duster
Type: Drilling Operations

Apr. 2013 - The partners of Norwegian license PL531 were disappointed by the results of exploration well 7218/11-1. Drilled by the Transocean Barents (UDW semisub), the well was targeting the Paleocene and Upper Cretaceous reservoirs of the Darwin prospect. Gas shows were encountered in the Paleocene interval but no hydrocarbons were found in the Cretaceous interval. Total depth was called at 8,339 feet. The first exploration well in PL531 will now be plugged and abandoned as a dry hole.

Transocean Barents Spuds Darwin Wildcat
Type: Drilling Operations

Mar. 2013 - Faroe Petroleum, 12.5 percent partner in PL531, announced the start of exploratory drilling at the Darwin prospect in the Barents Sea. Well 7218/11-1 is being drilled by the Transocean Barents (UDW semisub) in 1,066 feet (325 meters) of water. Darwin is located roughly 50 miles (80 kilometers) southwest of Statoil's Skrugard and Havis oil discoveries. Several prospects have been identified through 3D seismic and Darwin, if successful, could help de-risk the large upside potential of the license.
