Project Description
The Huntington oil field is located on Block 22/14b in the UK sector of the North Sea in 299 feet (91 meters) of water. E.ON Ruhrgas UK E&P is the operator of the oil field, owning a 25% interest in the license. Other partners in the license include Altinex Oil Limited (20%), Premier (40%), and Carrizo Oil & Gas, Inc. (15%).

Discovered in 2007, the initial development of the oil field will exploit the Forties Palaeocene reservoir. In addition to the Forties reservoir, there has also been a significant discovery in the deeper Fulmar field, which will be fully appraised before a development situation of this area is announced.

Noreco's estimate for recoverable reserves for the first five years of production is 41 million barrels of oil equivalents, of which 90% is oil. It is estimated the field holds about 150 million barrels of oil-in-place.

Field Development

On Nov. 18, 2010, the Department for Energy and Climate Change approved Huntington’s field development plan. The plan is to produce the Huntington field from the Sevan Voyageur FPSO with three to four production wells and one to two water injectors.

For the subsea equipment, the operator awarded Xodus Group a five-year open tender for the detailed design of the Huntington development. The work entails flexible risers, umbilicals, flexible and rigid pipelines, two subsea structures and comprehensive flow assurance engineering. The operator then awarded Subsea 7 an engineering and installation contract for the equipment. Work includes the installation of 7 miles (12 kilometers) of an 8-inch gas export pipeline, installation of infield flexible flowlines, main static umbilical and associated risers, as well as installation of subsea structures followed by tie-ins, pre-commissioning and system testing.

In October 2010, E.ON Ruhrgas signed a charter party contract for the Sevan Voyageur FPSO. The operator plans to install the vessel on the field in the fourth quarter of 2011.

The production facilities will have a production capacity of 30,000 barrels of oil per day.

Produced oil will be stored in the FPSO's integrated tanks before it is shipped to the market with shuttle tankers, while natural gas will be exported via pipeline.

First oil from the project is currently targeted for second quarter 2012.

Huntington Production Moving Towards Max Capacity
Type: Operator Update

Jul. 2013 - Production at the Huntington field has reached a rate of 24,500 boepd. Gas compression issues kept production rates below the FPSO's capacity of 30,000 bopd and 27 MMscfd but those issues have been resolved and rates should increase over the coming weeks. Since startup, there have been three successful crude lifts totaling more than 500,000 barrels. A fourth lift of over 200,000 barrels is due July 21. To date, the light oil produced at Huntington has sold between on par and a slight discount to Brent. Iona Energy feels that in the future Huntington oil will bring a premium to Brent.

Type: Production Start

Apr. 2013 - First oil has been achieved at the Huntington field in the UK North Sea. After an initial ramp-up period, the field is expected to produce at a rate of 30,000 bopd. Huntington has been developed with six subsea wells and the Sevan Marine-designed Voyageur Spirit floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. The field was discovered in 2007 and the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change approved the plan of development at the end of 2010. E.ON (25%) operates the field on behalf of its partners Premier (40%), Iona Energy (15%) and Noreco (20%).
