About The Field Development Projects
Off To A Good Start
Since 2005,the team of editors and writers working with Rigzone has been collecting
detailed information and descriptions of the world's largest offshore oil and gas field
developments. The project began with the desire to provide Rigzone's users with
a resource that would help them to learn about the work that has gone into and is continuing
to be done at the major offshore installations.
In July 2005, the profile of this section expanded with the Thunder Horse incident. Thousands
of industry professionals, journalists, and interested individuals made use of the information
that Rigzone provided about that field to get a better understanding of the scope of the
field and the work that had been done there. Since that time, we've seen growing interest
in the project descriptions as more people make use of this information to inform themselves
of the amazing work being accomplished at offshore fields around the world.
Still Growing
Because of the interest in this information, we have been working diligently to expand the
coverage, adding new project descriptions every quarter. From an initial group of about 40
of the world's largest offshore fields, we have expanded our coverage to nearly 80 fields.
And we are continuing to expand, with data collection beginning on over 200 more discoveries
and ongoing projects.
Up to this point, we have collected information from public sources
including government agencies, press releases and news articles. We have also received information
from operators, service companies, and equipment manufacturers. And we have used all of that to
create the in-depth descriptions that you find in this section.
Opening it Up
With the launch of SubseaIQ, we want to open up our Offshore Field Development database to the
input of the industry. If you or your company have worked on designing, engineering, building,
or maintaining offshore oil and gas installations, we want to hear from you. Let us know what
you did, what challenges you encountered, and how you overcame them. We want to hear about
everything from equipment details to interesting stories. So, contribute today.
